I recently was asked to review a brand new book called, Under the Table: Saucy Tales from Culinary School written by Katherine Darling. If you’re a fan of books that touch on the lives of chefs or even the popular reality tv series on Bravo, Top Chef, you’ll definitely enjoy this book! I loved reading through Katherine Darling’s experience in culinary school and it offers some insight about a whole new culture of aspiring chefs and bakers. It’s a great read that I encourage any foodie out there to pick up! Here is how senior publicist, Kim Curtin, of Simon & Schuster describes the book…
Katherine Darling enrolled as a student at the legendary French Culinary Institute expecting to learn the mysterious secrets of French cooking. But as she soon learned, culinary school is no place for romantics – it’s a cut-throat, raunchy, challenging world where the smallest mistake can bring on culinary catastrophe, or the humblest ingredients can create something heavenly.
This is a hot-off-the-press book which recently came out on April 14, 2009 and I would love for one of my readers to enjoy a brand new copy!

I would name my cafe “Flo’s” because it is simple, sweet, and the sound of “Let’s go to Flo’s for lunch” just hits me the right way.
I would love to open a bakery and call it “A Cookie a Day”….
Mine would probably be something totally unoriginal, like Erica’s Place. :p I’m horrible at coming up with creative names.
Hmmm….good question! I would name it Diane’s Diner, after my mom. 🙂
I would call it something like Sweet Start…make baked goods and be open really early through lunch time ish. I love Great Harvest..something like that! I hope I can find this book at my library!
I would name my restaurant the same thing I’ve named my blog, “Apple a Day”. My point of view on this one is that we all need healthy food in our bodies (An apple a day keeps the doctor away.) but we also all need some food for metal health too! Seriously, a rich, decadent, and soothing slice of warm chocolate poundcake goes a long way after a trying day!
I would open a bakery and name it “Evita’s.” Evita is one of my nicknames.

I would open a bakery/cafe in my favority neighborhood (my own) and name it Sarah Cate’s – my nickname that is the origin of Scate. This book looks fun – i really enjoy reading Anthony Bourdain’s books and like learning about the “underbelly” of the restaurant world!
great question. i think i would call it “greens.” it is a play on my married name and all the green veggies i love.
I’ve always said that I want to open a Cajun/Creole place and name it “Roux the Day”. I love puns!
Hmmm… that’s a hard one… but I think I’d go with Delish Dish. Don’t know why. Just like the sound. Or maybe Danielle’s Delish Dish.
My cafe would be a very casual lunch/dessert/coffee place….I would probably give it something homey and comfort sounding…maybe Jenny’s Bistro
I’ve thought about that quite a bit actually, and I haven’t come up with anything great. What I’d like to do is tie in something to do with the area the restaurant is in with the type of food I’d serve.
Guess what I would name it?
‘Savor The Thyme’
This is hard, I’ve never really thought about it before. I live in OK and most people around here prefer a ‘normal’ sounding name. I’ve seen a lot of noses turned up at ‘weird’ names, i.e. names that aren’t in plain ol American English. I’d probably do some kind of variation on my name.
A Movable Feast….a high quality deli….
Hmm…I would name it "Winkin' & Blinkin'", after a favorite poem my mum always said to me and I now say to my kids.

Cake, Batter, and Bowl of course! And it would be a lovely little pastry shop, where I would try to resist playing Shake, Rattle, and Roll all day 🙂 Great giveaway!
I would open a brunch/lunch cafe called The Strawberry Patch
there was a resturant in Columbus that was called "Raisin' Cane" tha had amazing fried chicken at 2 and 3 am. it appeared to be the popular grease spoon with their fries and texas toast. Story behind it was he named it after his dog. I would probably doing something along those lines… C&E's or something
That’s easy – Sweet Endings. A dessert shop, of course.
Fun giveaway! I just heard about this book and would love to read it!
I’d name my cafe Lulu, after my grandmother 🙂
I have absolutely no idea, other than that I’d like to to include the word “Cafe” somewhere. That feels plain, I think places with that in the title seem more homey.
I would create a wine and food bar-type place that would focus on small plates. It would have Napa-valley feel, with warm colors and wood touches. And it would have a glass enclosed wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant.
Now for the name…..maybe Wine & Dine – that would be the hardest thing to choose!
I would name it Munch after my little girl. Its her nick name…short for munchkin…but its a nice play on words for a restaurant!
I think a casual restaurant/ tea house – Serendipi-Tea
I think I’d name it the same thing I named my blog..Le Petit Pierogi. It’s a little quirky and something I think you’d remember! It also gives insight into my Polish heritage and my love of French Food!
Divine Times…or something along those lines. Whenever my friends and I go out, we always comment on how divine something was. Plus, I think a good restaurant needs to “sound” comfy – and this sounds comfy to me!

When I was a little kid, I wanted a restaurant named Garden of Eatin. Um, yeah…(hey, I was 9!).
I just asked my husband and he said Twig and Berries – something about meatballs and hot dogs…yeah… That’s just lovely. I don’t think I should ask him food questions anymore!
Just Desserts….because that’s what I would serve! 🙂
Alley-Cat!
I would name it Basil, because that’s my favorite herb, and I would have lots of dishes featuring basil.
This is a tough one! Since I love rice and different kinds would be on the menu, I’d go with “Arroz”.
