Pinoy Fried Chicken

A delicious pinoy-inspired fried chicken recipe that is crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside.

1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour (or cornstarch)
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
3/4 cup water
1/4 cup liquid coconut oil (or 9 tablespoons)
Oil for deep frying


In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, salt, cayenne pepper, and ground ginger. Mix well, then add the water and coconut oil, and mix until well combined.
In a large skillet, heat about 2-3 inches of oil over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 375° F (190° C).
Dip each chicken piece in the batter, coating it evenly on both sides. Submerge the pieces into the hot oil. Fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and both sides are golden-brown. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce and/or side dishes.


To keep the chicken crisp, make sure to drain it well before serving.
For an extra spicy kick, add more cayenne pepper to the batter.
