Thai Pepper Steak Recipe

This Thai pepper steak recipe is a delicious blend of salty, sweet and spicy flavors. The steak is stir-fried with a mixture of garlic, chilies, red peppers, and onions, and is served with a zesty sauce.

Ingredients

1 pound flank steak, cut into thin strips
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 red chilies, seeded and chopped
3 red bell peppers, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 onion, sliced
1/4 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons fish sauce
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 green onions, sliced
1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

Instructions

Place the steak strips in a medium bowl and sprinkle with the cornstarch. Toss to coat the strips evenly.
Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the oil and swirl to coat the bottom of the pan. Add the garlic, chilies, bell peppers and onion. Stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp, about 2 minutes.
Push the vegetables to the sides of the pan and add the steak strips. Stir-fry until the beef is cooked through, about 2 minutes.
Stir in the chicken broth, soy sauce, sugar, fish sauce, vinegar, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce is slightly thickened, about 3 minutes.
Remover from heat and stir in the green onions and sesame oil, if using. Serve the steak and vegetables hot, over cooked white or brown rice.

Notes

Feel free to substitute the beef with another protein, such as chicken, shrimp, scallops, or tofu.
For a spicier dish, add more chilies or a dash of chili flakes.
