Saltine Toffee Candy

A sweet and salty treat made with saltines and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Units Scale

1 stick butter
1/2 cup light or dark brown sugar
Saltines (enough to line a baking sheet)
12 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts)


Preheat oven to 400.
Line baking sheet with foil and arrange saltines in a single layer.
In a sauce pan, melt butter and add in brown sugar. Allow it to caramelize and boil for 2-3 minutes.
Pour mixture over saltines.
Bake in preheated oven for 5 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the saltines. Allow it to rest for 2 minutes, allowing the chocolate chips to melt.
Using a rubber spatula or spreader, spread the melted chocolate over the saltines to evenly coat.
Sprinkle the top with the chopped nuts.
Refrigerate to harden the chocolate.
Break into random pieces and enjoy.
