Classic Caprese Salad

A simple yet elegant Italian salad, featuring fresh tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and basil, dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

3 vine-ripe tomatoes, about 1/4-inch thick slices
1 pound fresh mozzarella, about 1/4-inch thick slices
1 bunch fresh basil
Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
Balsamic vinegar, for drizzling
Coarse salt and pepper


Take 3 vine-ripe tomatoes and slice them into approximately 1/4-inch thick pieces.
Slice 1 pound of fresh mozzarella into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
Wash a bunch of fresh basil and pat dry with a paper towel.
On a serving plate, alternate placing slices of tomato, mozzarella, and a couple of basil leaves, slightly overlapping each other, to create a fan effect.
Drizzle extra-virgin olive oil evenly over the arranged slices.
Add a drizzle of balsamic vinegar over the top as well.
Sprinkle coarse salt and freshly ground pepper over the salad to enhance the flavors.
Serve immediately as a refreshing appetizer or side dish.
