Ah… it’s Friday and in our house it’s Pizza Night! Now that we’re pretty much settled into our new home, we had some friends come over to join us in our weekly pizza night… and to have fun making their own. If you’re looking for a tasty alternative to ordering pizza, making them yourself is a lot of fun!
Having a ‘DIY’ dinner night is a great way for your friends and family to have fun with food and to be creative with their dish. Pizza is only one DIY dinner idea and I plan on having quite a few in the future… so stay tuned! Even my husband got into it and if you have friends and family like mine, even some friendly competition comes into play – lol.
Before our friends arrived, I had prepared the homemade pizza dough and had toppings prepped for them to play with. It was pretty simple and I loved that it was nice to be able to get a lot of things done in advance. I used THIS PIZZA DOUGH recipe, which can be done with either all purpose or a combination of all purpose and whole wheat flour. Either way, it’s a great recipe that doesn’t require too much time to rise and proof. Prepare this dough at least 10-15 minutes in advance before using.
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
On a large baking sheet (or baking stone), sprinkle come cornmeal to help prevent the dough from sticking. Flatten your pizza dough however you wish and place on the cornmeal dusted baking sheet. Top with your preferred toppings.
Once you’ve topped the dough, bake your pizzas in a 425 degree oven for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is melted and to your desired doneness.
To end on a sweet note, our friend Colin brought in this delicious Chocolate Cream Pie made with a healthy, secret ingredient – tofu! I’m awaiting his recipe and once received, I’ll post it to share…
Your pizza looks awesome and so yummy! Looks like your pizza night was a lot of fun!
Home made pizza nights are so awesome! The waiting and aroma of cheese going all golden is soooo cruel though!
